ActionsMolecular Biology Reagents/Chemicals
MIDSCI™ gives you ultra-pure, cost-competitive molecular biology reagents and lab chemicals for life science research; often with significant cost savings over Sigma Aldrich and other lab reagent providers.
PR1MA™ Chemicals can help with a wide variety of research-based requirements.
Use our glycerol for polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Eliminate Agrobacterium after inoculation with the carbenicillin we carry. Or detect β-Galactosidase activity with X-GAL which, when combined with the IPTG we stock, can be used to detect lac gene expression in cloning applications.
We also carry Luria Broth (Lennox), for the propagation and maintenance of E. coli; DTT, in order to maintain –SH groups in a reduced state; and high gel strength agar for tissue culture and microbiological work.

PR1MA™ X-GAL [5-Bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl-β-D-galactoside]
Common Name: 5-Bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl-β-D-galactoside
CAS Number: 7240-90-6
Molecular Weight: 408.6
Chemical Formula: C14H15BrCINO6
Solubility: DMSO and DMF
Storage Temperature: -20°C
Chromogenic substrate of β-Galactosidase used in combination with IPTG for
detection of β-Galactosidase activity in bacterial colonies. X-GAL is
cleaved at the B1-4 bond between galactose and the
5-Bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl portion of X-GAL by β-Galactosidase via
hydrolysis. The cleavage of X-GAL results in the production of a water
insoluble blue dichloro-dibromo-indigo precipitate. In cloning strategies
with vectors such as Lambda-11, M13mp18 and 19, pUC18 and 19, pUR222 the E.
coli lacZ gene is transformed to lac+ cells. After transformation the cells
show β-Galactosidase activity in the presence of media containing X-GAL and
IPTG. The insertion of a DNA fragment into the cloning sites of the lacZ
gene results in the disruption of β-Galactosidase activity leading to the
appearance of white colonies. Non-recombinant cells produce a blue indigo
dye.

Bullseye Agarose General Purpose
Bullseye Molecular Biology Grade Agarose is certified for use in standard electrophoresis procedures, including nucleic acid analysis, preparative electrophoresis, and blotting. This highly refined and purified agarose is produced under strict testing parameters to ensure lot-to-lot consistency. It features low electrophoretic mobility characteristics, making it ideal for a variety of applications.
Extracted from the cell walls of certain Rhodophyceae (agarophyte seaweeds), Bullseye Standard Agarose is a neutral polysaccharide composed of galactan, linked by agarobioses in a 1-3, 1-4 arrangement. This unique chemical structure enables agarose to form robust gels even at low concentrations. The gels exhibit a macroreticular structure with an open mesh, easily adjustable by varying the agarose concentration.
Bullseye Agarose GP2 offers:
- General-purpose electrophoresis and blotting capabilities
- Excellent separation, resolution, and clarity
- Low absorption and background from staining reagents
- High gel strength for safe and easy handling
- Superior refinement and purification
- Enhanced thermal stability
- Comprehensive packaging including a specification sheet, preparation instructions, and MSDS
- Choose Bullseye Standard Agarose for reliable performance in your molecular biology applications.
