Pro Tip: Colored plastics do not have any impact on DNA amplification. But when setting up qPCR it is often recommended to use white plastics. This will limit or prevent fluorescence refraction. Light refraction can minimize sensitivity and consistency.
Pro Tip 2: If you are seeing inconsistencies in PCR/qPCR try PR1MA Pipette Tips. This will help optimize and reduce variance in the reactions. Simple test, see the residual liquid left in tips? This means some of the taq, dNTPs, sample, etc is left in the tip. PR1MA tips help reduce that significantly and improve your consistency.
Pro Tip 3: Seeing evaporation in the outer wells of a PCR/qPCR plate? Sometimes it’s the plate, sometimes it the seal, and sometimes it’s the cycler. Call us we have solutions.

The MP-1015 is the ideal Multi-Purpose gel box for both extended high resolution, linear runs, and economical quick screens. The maximum suggested applied voltage for the electrophoresis of DNA in agarose gels using the IB53000-MP1015 is 140 volts. In a 1% TBE gel, this translates into a run time of approx. 1 hour. Lower voltages can be used of course, and as a general rule a 70 volt run will take twice as long as a 140 volt run. Higher voltages can be used to decrease run time however, higher voltages can produce excessive heat and decrease sample resolution. |

The IBI "Lab-Pal" has been designed with the teaching lab in mind. The IB50000 utilizes

This new UV transilluminator features a space-saving design while having 16 x 19 cm UV viewing surface to accommodate large gels or multiple smaller gels. The illuminated surface is comprised of a special black glass which is easy to clean, durable and scratch resistant.
Furthermore, an array of high intensity UV bulbs coupled with an optimized filter provides even illumination across the viewing surface and allows detection of small sample quantities. The dual intensity switch can be used to lower the UV intensity to 50% to reduce DNA damage during long exposure times, or switch to high intensity (100%) for viewing weak fluorescent signals or for photo documentation.
The acrylic UV blocking cover allows safe viewing of samples and has two friction hinges on the front edge to allow angling of the cover for gel access. The cover can be positioned to 90° (straight up) to fit a gel imaging hood, such as the SmartDoc™ imaging enclosure (E5000-SD).
