Stainless Steel Beads

Stainless steel beads are ideal for homogenizing biological samples. Due to their high density, they are suitable for homogenizing tough and soft samples or for special applications such as bacterial isolation. This blend of beads has diameters from 0.9 mm to 11 mm. Stainless Steel UFO Beads are also available!

RNase-free stainless steel beads undergo a special cleaning process. They are guaranteed and certified to be RNase-free. RNase-free stainless steel beads are sold by the 4 mL package.

Stainless Steel UFO Beads

Stainless steel beads can be used for homogenization of touch samples or for special applications such as bacterial isolation. Cone beads (UFO beads) have a special shape that is great for cutting through particularly fibrous or resilient material.

Cone beads are available in 3.5 mm and 5.6 mm diameters in either bulk packaging (50 mL tubes) or in an RNase-free option (10 mL pack size). These beads are for use only in 5 mL and 50 mL tubes within the appropriate Bullet Blender homogenizer.

Glass Beads

Glass beads are ideal for the homogenization of biological samples. Due to the low density of the material, it is suitable for the homogenization of soft tissues and easy-to-lyse cell suspensions. Perfect for research that demands precision and reliability.

RNase-free glass beads undergo a special cleaning process. They are guaranteed and certified to be RNase-free.

Zirconium Oxide Beads

Zirconium oxide beads are ideal for the homogenization of biological samples. Due to the lower density of the material, it is suitable for the homogenization of softer samples, such as brain or kidney tissue. Autoclavable in dry cycle.

RNase-free zirconium oxide beads undergo a special cleaning process. They are guaranteed and certified to be RNase-free.

115 volt, with Safety Shield

The Mini-Beadbeater-16 is a high-energy cell disrupter designed to handle four to sixteen samples at a time.

The Mini-BeadBeater-16 disrupts microbial cells and plant and animal tissue by violently agitating four to sixteen 2 ml screw-cap microvials containing small glass, ceramic or steel beads and disruption buffer. Even resistant samples like yeast, spores or fibrous tissue are completely homogenized around 3 minutes in 0.1 to 1 ml of extraction medium. The non-foaming, aerosol-free method preserves enzymes and organelles. In the presence of nucleic acid extraction media such as phenol, Gu-SCN or a commercial kit solution, DNA or RNA is recovered in the highest possible yield. The method is ideal for PAGE, PCR applications and diagnostics using antibody or oligonucleotide probes. Because the beads and vials are disposable, there is absolutely Zero cross-contamination between samples - essential for PCR techniques.

The Tissue-Tearor is a rotor/stator type tissue homogenizer which can rapidly homogenize, disperse, and emulsify samples in 0.2 - 1000 ml of liquid. During operation, the suspended material is drawn into the core of the homogenizer by a rotor turning at up to 35,000 rpm. The material is repeatedly cycled through six narrow slits in the stator where it is rapidly sheared and disintegrated by high frequency mechanical action. Complete homogenization of tissues (muscle, liver, breast tissue, etc.) is usually achieved in ten to thirty seconds. Little, if any, heat is produced during the process.

Unlike most other Brands of rotor/stator type homogenizers, the Tissue-Tearor comes complete - that is, with both a motor and a probe (aka, generator, dispersing tool) - both included in one price.

Specifications:

  • Sample Volume Range: 0.3 to 1000 ml, depending on the probe selected (see table below).
  • Universal Motor: 120 VAC, 138 watts or , for overseas applications, 230VAC2
  • Variable Speed: 5,000 to 35,000 rpm, incremented by 5000 rpm.
  • Probes made of Type 316 Stainless Steel with flurocarbon bushings.
  • Weight: Approximately 1/2 Kg.

The Bio-Pulverizer reduces tissue hard-frozen in liquid nitrogen to a fine powder. Called freeze-fracturing, this method is especially useful for tough, fibrous tissues such as skin, cartilage, cornea, etc. The Bio-Pulverizer consists of a hole machined in a stainless steel base, into which fits a special piston. In a typical procedure, up to 10g of animal or plant tissue is hard-frozen in liquid nitrogen and placed in the pre-chilled Bio-Pulverizer. The piston is mounted on an easy to use trigger mechanism that is squeezed to deliver a blow to the brittle tissue reducing it to a fine powder. Freeze fracturing with the Bio-Pulverizer is also useful for extracting labile tissue metabolites and as a preliminary step to other homogenization techniques. 2 year warranty

How the Bio-Pulverizer Works

  • Place the Bio-Pulverizer in the insulated container and cool thoroughly with either liquid nitrogen (preferred) or a dry-ice/alcohol mixture.
  • Place pre-frozen tissue in the well of the mortar. Re-insert the pestle into the well.
  • Remove the mortar from the insulated container and pulverize the tissue with one or two blows to the pestle.
  • Invert the mortar and empty the powdered contents for subsequent homogenization or extraction procedure.

  • Use for mixing, emulsification, shredding, or chopping.
  • Practical answer for small samples.
  • Easy to hold and light weight for one hand operation. Can also be stand mounted.
  • Autoclavable stainless steel probes. Inert to aggressive solutions.
