ActionsThe SmartBlue™ Blue Light Transilluminator
The SmartBlue™ Blue Light Transilluminator is the smart alternative to UV transillumination. The uniform 465 nm bottom lighting illumination is perfect for excitation of most green fluorophores without damaging the DNA, thus resulting in a much higher downstream cloning efficiency. Furthermore, the two position filter cover position allows for easy access to the gel for band excision. Without the need for the use of DNA damaging UV light, you don't have to worry about any damage to the skin and eyes.
The LEDS are long lasting (with a 30,000 hour service life) providing a durable and efficient illumination option. Gels can be excised directly on the unit with the scratch resistant surface. The unit contains an automatic 5 minute timed shut off for energy saving as well. The cover can be placed flush with the unit, at a 60 degree angle, or completely removed for use with the SmartDoc Imager (E5000-SD).
Pair with DNA Safe Stain (C138) for the ultimate viewing effectiveness!
A 230V is available upon request (SB4500-E).

SmartBlue™ Mini Blue Light Transilluminator
Safer for samples, safer for you: Accuris SmartBlue™ Mini Blue Light Transilluminator is the perfect partner for most common safe DNA stains. It emits blue light at a wavelength of 465nm, perfect for excitation of most green fluorophors, including our Accuris’ SmartGlow™, SYBR Green, SYBR Safe, SYBR Gold, GelStar, GelGreen, to name a few. The SmartBlue™ Mini also works for excitation of EtBr (though fluorescence is not as bright as with UV), see our Technical Bulletin with sample images. Exposing DNA to blue wavelength does not cause molecular damage, and results in a much higher downstream cloning efficiency as compared to even short UV light exposures. In addition, the visible blue light is not damaging to the user’s skin and is less harmful to the eyes.*
Two position filter cover: The E4100 transilluminator comes with an emission filter cover. These amber covers, which rest above the viewing surface and gel, filter out the blue light, allowing the fluorescing DNA bands to be seen clearly. The covers are designed to fit flat for general gel viewing or to be placed at an angle to provide easy access to the gel for band excision. For documentation, the filter cover is easily removed completely. UI technology, bright and clear images: The bright LED light plates and filter layer provides an extremely evenly lit viewing surface. Even in ambient light, bands of DNA can clearly be seen in stained gels. Images obtained using the SmartBlue™ Mini Transilluminator are brighter and more balanced than those obtained using epi-illuminators which light from the sides.
Reliable, durable and long lasting: An array of super bright LEDs with a long, 30,000 hour service life provide the light source for the SmartBlue™ Mini Transilluminator. Unlike those in a UV transilluminator, the filters in the SmartBlue™ Min system will not solarize and degrade in performance over time. Gel bands can be excised directly on the scratch resistant, glass viewing surfaces. To save energy, the power switch includes an automatic 5 minute shutoff. SmartBlue™ Mini Transilluminators are covered by a 2 year warranty.
* The SmartBlue™ products use high intensity LED lights. Although the visible blue wavelength is significantly safer than UV light, it is recommended to not stare directly at the viewing surface without the amber cover in place.

Optional SmartBlue™ Plus Viewing Glasses
Accuris SmartBlue™ Plus Viewing Glasses offer exceptional protection for researchers working with bright blue LED and UV light illuminators. The polycarbonate filter lenses are shatter proof, scratch resistant and block light in the UV (280 nm) to blue (490 nm) wavelengths. In addition, they are compliant with ANSI Z87.1.
These glasses are ideal for general protection when working with hazardous wavelengths and for precision DNA band cutting on a UV or blue light transilluminator. While blocking hazardous UV and blue light, the glasses allow clear visualization of DNA bands stained with Ethidium Bromide, SmartGlow™, SYBR Green and other fluorescent dyes.
*Always wear appropriate UV protection for eyes and exposed skin when working with UV light sources
