Grant Bio Personal Multi-Channel Bioreactors - RTS-8 and RTS-8-PLUS
Personal multi-channel bioreactors with non-invasive real-time OD, pH, and pO2 measurements.
Please specify which calibration option is desired upon placing order (E.coli, S.Cerevisiae, or both E.Coli and S.Cerevisiae calibration).
About
RTS-8 and RTS-8 plus are personal bioreactors that utilize patented Reverse-Spin® technology that applies non-invasive, mechanically driven, low energy consumption, innovative type of agitation where cell suspension is mixed by the single-use falcon bioreactor tube rotation around its axis with a change of direction of rotation motion resulting in highly efficient mixing and oxygenation for aerobic cultivation. Combined with near-infrared, fluorescence, and luminescence measurement systems, it is possible to register cell growth kinetics, pH, and O2 non-invasively in real time. For pH and O2, innovative single-use sensor spots are used inside the tubes.
Although O2 supply is one of the major issues in the cultivation of aerobic organisms, especially in oxygen-limited conditions, adequate methods for real monitoring of dissolved oxygen were missing, and sufficient O2 supply was usually assumed. Innovative non-invasive oxygen sensors integrated in falcon tubes now enable online oxygen monitoring and give new insights into metabolic activities. The pH is one of the major issues in the cultivation of cells, yeast, or bacteria. Cultivation vessels that are sensor-limited are widely applied in academic and industrial bioprocess development. As adequate methods for real monitoring of pH were not available, cumbersome at-line sampling was used lacking high data density and interfering with growth. Non-invasive real-time pH measurement provides new insights into metabolic activity and changes in metabolic pathways.

The Mini-Beadbeater-16 is a high-energy cell disrupter designed to handle four to sixteen samples at a time.
The Mini-BeadBeater-16 disrupts microbial cells and plant and animal tissue by violently agitating four to sixteen 2 ml screw-cap microvials containing small glass, ceramic or steel beads and disruption buffer. Even resistant samples like yeast, spores or fibrous tissue are completely homogenized around 3 minutes in 0.1 to 1 ml of extraction medium. The non-foaming, aerosol-free method preserves enzymes and organelles. In the presence of nucleic acid extraction media such as phenol, Gu-SCN or a commercial kit solution, DNA or RNA is recovered in the highest possible yield. The method is ideal for PAGE, PCR applications and diagnostics using antibody or oligonucleotide probes. Because the beads and vials are disposable, there is absolutely Zero cross-contamination between samples - essential for PCR techniques.

Stuart Hotplate
A heated glass ceramic plate mounted in a block of pure PTFE creates a powerful hotplate which is almost impervious to chemical attack, even by concentrated acids.
When boiling acid solutions the CP300 is unaffected by the fumes and splashes which eventually destroy conventional hotplates. The chemical inertness of the PTFE body and ceramic top plate also means that much more aggressive cleaning agents can be used. For example, if all traces of metal must be removed, this hotplate can be washed with concentrated nitric acid!
The separate temperature controller is connected to the hotplate via a 2 metre PTFE coated lead. This allows the hotplate to be located in a fume cupboard and the controller kept outside, well away from the corrosive environment. The controller is also fitted with a "Hot" warning light that will flash whenever the plate temperature of the hotplate is above 50° C and it will continue to operate when the hotplate is turned off and connected to the electricity supply. The hotplate has a large 200 mm square heated area so is ideal for heating either one large vessel or several smaller ones.
