MTC Bio Culture Tubes

 

Polypropylene & Polystyrene Options.

 

MTC Bio Culture Tubes are ideal for laboratory sample collection, culturing, and storage. Available in 12 x 75 mm (5 mL) and 17 x 100 mm (14 mL) sizes, these high-quality plastic tubes come with dual-position LDPE snap caps for flexible use.

 

In the first cap position, the tube allows air exchange, ideal for aerobic culturing. The second position creates a leak-proof, airtight seal, perfect for anaerobic applications or secure sample storage.

 

Choose from two tube materials:

  • Crystal-Clear Polystyrene (PS): Withstands temperatures from 0°C to 70°C and can be centrifuged up to 2000 x g.
  • Durable Polypropylene (PP): Resists temperatures from -86°C to 121°C, making it ideal for extreme storage and autoclaving. These tubes tolerate centrifugation up to 4000 x g.

Options include:

  • Tubes with attached snap caps and molded graduations
  • Tubes without caps and graduation-free 

All MTC Bio culture tubes are sterile (SAL 10) and free of RNase, DNase, pyrogens, and cytotoxins, ensuring the integrity of your samples in every application.

5 mL Snap-Cap MacroTubes®

5 mL MacroTubes® scale up the conveniences of standard 1.5 mL tubes for larger volumes. These polypropylene tubes come with an attached cap that provides a tight, leak-proof seal and can be opened (or closed) with one hand. The cap is designed to provide a secure seal from -86°C to 80°C.


They have the same diameter as standard 15 mL tubes for compatibility with centrifuge rotors, etc. They have replaced 15 mL tubes in many applications, reducing plastic waste, storage space, and shipping costs. Contamination of pipettor shafts can be eliminated because the tube length is short enough for standard 1 mL and/or 5 mL tips to reach the tube's conical bottom. The syringe port in the cap is useful not only for needle and syringe access but also for venting internal pressure that has built up due to incubation at higher temperatures.

These precision-molded, conical and round bottom tubes are perfect for a multitude of general laboratory uses. Precision crafted of extra clear virgin polypropylene in natural and colors or clear virgin polystyrene. Tube caps are made of low-density polyethylene for a secure seal and are available in a fluted plug style or dual position design that permits sample aspiration.

Polypropylene tubes are autoclavable to 122°C and freezable to -80°C. Polystyrene tubes are not autoclavable but have a nominal temperature range between 90°C and -40°C. Polyethylene caps are not autoclavable but are available pre-sterilized with many of the tube packages.

Polypropylene tubes can be centrifuged to 3000 RCF and polystyrene tubes will withstand 1500 RCF. (RCF; Relative Centrifugal Force, is not equivalent to RPM)

Rapid Gel Fragmentation for DNA Recovery.

 

Gel Crusher Spin Columns provide a fast, efficient, and consistent method for gel fragmentation, replacing traditional crush-and-soak or manual gel breaker steps. Designed with 600 uM filtration pores, these columns enable quick and uniform fragmentation of agarose or acrylamide gel slices, saving time and increasing DNA recovery yields.

 

Ideal for workflows in molecular cloning, PCR cleanup, restriction digests, DNA sequencing, and labeling protocols, the Gel Crusher simplifies the preparation of gel fragments for downstream purification and elution steps.

 

Simply insert the Gel Crusher column into a 2 mL microcentrifuge tube, add your pre-cut gel slice (prepared using a gel cutter or razor blade), and centrifuge at max speed (~15,000 x g) for 5 minutes. The gel will be forced through the 600 uM pores, producing small, uniform fragments that can be easily pipetted using wide-bore tips into NaCl or other solutions.

 

This process creates a fine slurry that enhances elution efficiency and improves access to the target nucleic acids, significantly reducing incubation and processing time.
